It seems like time flies, and it does. Kids are already 10 1/2 months old now. Jen’s been planning for their 1st birthday party now for weeks, maybe even months. Its a good thing too. I didn’t realize how involved it would be. I can’t give away the surprises, but it will be VERY kid friendly obviously. We’re renting a pavilion at the park district, so obviously they’ll be a nice park, plenty of room, etc. But just the logistics of it is insane. Food for a LOT of people. Stuff for kids to do. Stuff for adults to do. What time, what to bring, timing of everything under the sun. Jen’s got a notebook with probably pages of stuff filled of what we need, what we have, what we still need to get. Thankfully the ‘need to get’ list is getting smaller, but she’s doing an awesome job of thinking about stuff I would never think of. Guess I’d never cut it as a party planner. Me: well. just show up at 3:00, ok? Unfortunately that doesn’t feed/entertain your guests. Guess I’ll leave it in the hands of a professional!
Over the past week we’ve been pretty busy with the kids. Been out wrangling up decorations and such for their party, watching stores for deals/ideas is key when you’re setting up such a large get-together . Just hope the weather will cooperate, but if not, that’s covered, quite literally by a 50×100 or so pavilion!
When Jen wasn’t doing that, she’s been with the crawl machines having fun. We found out they LOVE the pool. Water was chilly. They didn’t care, just got right in and started splashing around.
They look like they’re about ready to start walking too. Tyler is insanely fast at crawling now. Hailey just looks like she’s doing the worm , but I think by they’re birthday there’s a good shot either one or both of them will be walking. We shall see!

Took the kids out for a walk today. 80 degrees. had to be near 100% humidity. It was THICK, so much so there was fog for a while.

Jen entered the kids in a baby competition. Judged on looks, character, attitude or something weird like that. I think we’ll be ok. We got 2 cute smilers!

We got a different car since we couldnt fit the kids AND their stuff in there at the same time. A Chevy Uplander. Not a bad ride. I’m not a fan of mini-vans, but it has decent styling, rides nice, has some pickup, and it suits whats we needed it for, SPACE. Jen loves it, which is good since its now her daily driver.

Other than that we’re just trying to beat the heat. Trying to mix in outdoors time with the kids, but sometimes its just so hot. Jen being the awesome mom she is, took the kids to the park this week and put them on the kiddie swings, they loved them!

Well back to parenting we go!

Both are doing the army crawl where they more pull themselves w/ their arms than actual full out crawl using their knees. But it works, and they can really get around now.

Tyler is up to 8 teeth, Hailey still at 2 and holding. They never really bothered Tyler, but at night they seem to be bugging Hailey and she has some trouble sleeping.

It’s nice for Jen that she’s been getting to spend more home time w/ the kids, whereas I was there more up until pretty recently. But now the weather is nice (see: HOT) and we’ve been outside w/ them. The got their first pool experience last week and they loved it. They thought it was a big tub and just splashed around like mad. We even brought them in the big soaker tub this week so they could splash all they wanted w/o wrecking the hardwood floors!

Next thing you know, they’ll be 1 yr old! Not far away. 2 1/2 months to go. Good thing Jen started planning MONTHS ago, so we’ll be ready!

I had my unofficial fathers day last year when jen was 6 months pregnant, but this is the real deal. Lifes so much different now with 2 kids, but I wouldnt change it. Its great being a dad. Taxing at times, but we survived the lack of sleep, and we’ve come to live with the fact we have next to no personal time now, but every time you look at Hailey or Tyler, you realize that its all worth it. They’re great kids, and its so fun watching them grow. They’re all smiles most of the time, and just feed off you or each other. You smile, they smile. You make a funny noise, they have to make a funny noise, etc.

For my first fathers day the kids got me some candy (they know me SO well already), oh yeah, and a new Sirius receiver for the car! Now that I’m back to driving alot it’ll be nice having that again. I miss it. Tyler must have picked it out. I’ve taught that kid well! (thanks Jen

Well my fathers day begins. 7am and Tylers already telling me he wants out of the crib. Thanks again for the gift kids. Mommy and I love you

havent posted in a month. figured I’d throw out an update on how we’re doing.

its been nice around here the past month since the weather is breaking. the kids really love it outside in the fresh air, and we love it too since they sleep like rocks after a day outside. I’ve been taking them for walks just about every day I can. normally anywhere from 4-6 miles at a time, and we’ve been all over town too. their heads just crane everywhere looking at all the houses, cars, and people. we get so many stares around town. not many people have seen a guy pushing a stroller of 2 kids I suppose? but it helps me to slim up a bit, and it gets them fresh air, so its a win-win. Jen and I even walked them over to grandmas house last week to say hi.

we’ve been busy the past few weeks too. trying to get the house in order after a LONG winter. spring cleaning, and getting stuff ready for the town garage sale. last year there was 120+ houses involved in it.

other than that, not much going on. just enjoying the weather a bit and doing some work around the house. landscaping, working on the deck, etc. keeps us busy.

kids are 8 months now and getting BIG. both of them are well over 20# now and getting to be a handful. they love playing on the floor rolling around from one wall to another, and meeting in the middle to handfight w/ each other for a bit. Hailey is starting to ‘talk’ She’s been saying ‘daaa da’ for the past week now.

everyone that sees us walking around town w/ them has something to say about them. its like they’ve never seen twins before. but, everyone is nice. they always drive slowly around them as we’re rolling around town, or wave, or smile. I’m really glad we moved out this way, such nice people. Just wish it was a bit closer to shopping/groceries.

back to babying.

I guess its been about 3 weeks since our last post. I told myself too ‘once the kids get here I’ll post more’, but at least I’ve been better and broke out the video camera to catch some of these moments with them.

problem with that is, with two kids, timewise its hard to keep up with everything. its past midnight now, and that seems about the time to get this done. everyone is fast asleep minus me, couldnt sleep. my schedule is all jacked up since being REALLY sick friday night. my sleep and eating is all outta whack. but anyways, back to my point.

Wait, did I have a point? I ramble toooooo much. ok, so, point is, kids are doing GREAT. they’re about 4 1/2 months now, and growing like mad. they’re both about 15# now, and healthy as can be. not even a sniffle yet outta them. if I could say there was 1 problem, they are fart MACHINES!

But in all seriousness, they’re great. We even saw today that Tyler has teeth starting to break through. his 2 front bottom teeth are starting to appear. Doesnt seem to be bothering him much just yet. Both kids have found out that they can make a *LOT* of noise now. Both are testing their lungs and screeching as loud as they can. They love to see it give us a raise, and we end up going ‘awwwwwww Hailey, Tyler, what are u doing?’ and then they give a huge smile.

The age they’re at right now is amazing. they can smile, grab their toys, give hugs (sorta), sit-up, rollover, bark… wait, scratch that, minus bark. They seem to recognize sights & sounds very well now, and react to them accordingly. Loud noises scare them, soothing voices make them smile, etc.

Other than that, all is the same with us. Just waiting for the weather to break so Hailey & Tyler can meet their new friends since two of our neighbors had kids in the past 3 months too. 1 boy and 1 girl so they’ll each have at least 1 new friend!

Jen and I are doing well too, just a handfull trying to keep up on looking after monkey 1 & 2. They wear us, and just think, they havent even started crawling yet, OUCH

the past 3+ weeks has been about taking care of the babies, this week its about taking care of mommy. Jen has been having some internal pains that we kinda contributed to her insides returning to their pre-baby spots, but come Thursday night, her discomfort was bad enough for a trip to the E.R. The doctors there ran blood work and utrasounds and came up with….. gallstones. Interesting. After reading more about it and talking with the doctors about it, it seems that pregnancy can trigger the gallbladder to not clear out like its supposed to. And the stones trying to be passed was what was giving her the discomfort.

Jen had a dr appt friday am and her dr said back to the hospital she goes. So we’re here, and they wanted 2 procedures for her. One to check out the bile ducts, and the other actual gallbladder removal. Procedure 1 just finished and her dr was very happy w/ the results and how it went, really encouraging. Tomorrow is the gallbladder surgery. Jen seemed to be more worried about the first procedure since 2 family members had gallbladder removal w/ no issues. Now that her procedure is done, and our comfort in her dr tomorrow with having done THOUSANDS of gallbladder removals, she will hopefully be on the road to full recovery, and back to no sleep with the kids at home

Thanks grandma and grandpa for all your help and for watching the kids while we’re here!!!

So the monkeys have been home with us for just about two weeks now. Its been both the most amazing and at the same time most physically taxing time for Jen and I in a long time.

As we try to get them on a schedule, they do good, then bad. It seems like they’ll be fine for a day, then the next 2 days they’ll be on complete opposite schedules. Even one of them keeps w/ a 3.5-4 hour feeding schedule, the other will decide at about 2 hours that they’re STARVING, like we’ve never fed them before.

We’ve yet to have them sleep through the night. They have no problem sleeping through the day though, so we try to get stuff done in the afternoon when they’re sleeping. But come nighttime, its seems like during/after their overnight feeding they wanna partttttttttttttttttttttttttttty. If they eat at 1am, they’ll be up and fussy till 3. I think I was up till almost 6am yesterday with Tyler. You cant get mad at him either. He’s such a cute kid. Hailey does the same to us too. She’ll be fine for days, and then 1 night she’ll pick to have a meltdown, and I mean MELTDOWN. Screaming to the point that she’ll almost be out of breath. It gets to you, but they just want to be held most of the time.

We’re getting used to them. They’re getting used to us. We know what they need and when they need it. Guess that’s what being a parent of newborns is all about.

Hailey seems to almost have doubled in weight (well not literally, but you can really tell she’s putting on the weight) Tyler is gaining too, but not at the same rate as her. That poor kid too, his sister got all the good stuff even when they weren’t born yet.

He’s probably going to not know his name either. It seems we have about 10 nicknames for him already. Bubba, Bubs, Squeaker, Popeye, Lil Brother, Ty, and probably 4 or 5 other ones that escape me at the moment. Most popular one is Bubs though. Hailey has her share too. Lil Momma, Big Sister, Chunky, etc

Ah well. Back to baby’in

Mike & Jen
